As confirmation hearings begin this week, Red State Democrats like Heidi Heitkamp will have an important decision to make. Will Heitkamp respect the wishes of North Dakota voters, who resoundingly supported Donald Trump in a 36-point landslide, and support the President-elect’s choices for key cabinet posts? Or will she join with Washington liberals who have vowed to attempt to block Trump’s appointees?

As a member of the Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs, and Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Heidi Heitkamp will play a role in the confirmation hearings for Secretary of Homeland Security Nominee General John Kelly and Secretary of Housing and Urban Development nominee Dr. Ben Carson. Heitkamp must decide whether to join Democrats’ oppose-at-all costs strategy, or to represent North Dakota voters, who clearly support President-elect Trump and his agenda.

“At this week’s confirmation hearings, Heidi Heitkamp will be forced to choose between Washington liberals, who have vowed to obstruct President-elect Trump’s cabinet nominees, and North Dakota voters, who resoundingly voted for change in Washington,” said NRSC Spokesman Bob Salera. “North Dakotans should be on the lookout for whether Heidi Heitkamp will make a desperate attempt to distance herself from her fellow Senate liberals as her reelection bid approaches, or if she will show her true colors and join their strategy of obstruction.”
