Tina Smith’s close ally, Congressman Keith Ellison, announced today he will run for Minnesota Attorney General, after current AG Lori Swanson failed to secure the party’s backing during a chaotic and dysfunctional Democratic convention.
Ellison’s AG candidacy will potentially put another far-left liberal at the top of the ticket for Minnesota Democrats, and in a state that’s trending red, will further highlight how out of touch the party has become.
Smith and Ellison are good friends, with Ellison immediately endorsing her Senate candidacy and joining the radical Senator at one of her first public events. Given Ellison’s recent announcement, will Smith return the favor and endorse Ellison’s candidacy and the baggage that comes with him? Or will she avoid tying herself to Ellison’s controversial past and upset her liberal base, which demands absolute allegiance to its far left-wing?
