Should the DNC still permit Tammy Duckworth to take the stage this evening in Philadelphia, it’s fitting that thunderstorms are in the forecast. As she prepares to speak before millions across the country, a devastating whistleblower retaliation trial is back to rain on Defendant Duckworth’s parade.

In a breaking development, the Daily Herald reported yesterday that VA whistleblowers rejected Defendant Duckworth’s taxpayer-funded settlement.

Defendant Duckworth, therefore, is headed to trial for silencing and retaliating against courageous VA employees in less than three weeks.

Just like their boss, Defendant Duckworth’s crack team either "screwed up" or blatantly lied to the people of Illinois about the settlement and its terms. The plaintiffs again blew the whistle yesterday on the actual amount of taxpayer-funded hush money that Defendant Duckworth’s taxpayer-funded legal team wanted to waste:

  • "The original settlement offer was reported to be around $26,000, with the attorney general’s office paying for the employees’ attorney fees and other court costs. But Butler and Goins said the offer in actuality was more like $40,000, with $21,000 of that sum paying for attorney’s fees and another $9,000 provided to each plaintiff."

And, just like their boss, Defendant Duckworth’s crack team shamefully decided to bully the plaintiffs and "swing [them] through the mud":

  • "Plaintiffs Denise Goins and Christine Butler told the Daily Herald Wednesday they were insulted by the Duckworth campaign’s June 24 response to the settlement, with deputy campaign manager Matt McGrath releasing a statement describing the suit as ‘a frivolous workplace case’ that dragged on for more than eight years. ‘Within an hour of leaving the courthouse, her campaign decided to swing us through the mud again,’ Butler said. ‘So we emailed our attorney to let him know we want to proceed to trial.’"

Why was Defendant Duckworth so eager to spend $40,000 in taxpayer dollars to avoid trial?

Illinois voters will finally find out starting August 15.

Until then, read and watch what they are saying about Rod Blagojevich appointee Tammy Duckworth’s "bad news":

  • Associated Press: "The lawsuit alleges that Duckworth violated ethics laws in reprimanding Christine Butler and Denise Goins when Duckworth led the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs. Butler said Wednesday that she changed her mind about the settlement because she feels Duckworth is still trying to tarnish the women’s reputations by stating the allegations are false. ‘We were whistleblowers and she’s bullying us, and we’re going to stand up to tell the truth,’ Butler said."

  • Capitol Fax: "Bad news for Duckworth…The Duckworth campaign shoulda just kept their mouths closed."

  • Chicago Tribune: "…the National Republican Senatorial Committee and Kirk’s campaign pointed to a published report that quoted the two women who sued as saying they’ve changed their mind about a settlement announced a month ago and now want to proceed to trial. The timing of that revelation has the effect of muddying the waters for Duckworth on what otherwise was an easy political momentum builder…the Duckworth campaign called the settlement "appropriate for what was always a frivolous workplace case" and suggested the case was in the rear view mirror. That characterization apparently aggravated the two state workers, and on the eve of Duckworth’s convention speech they resurfaced, telling the Daily Herald they want to go to trial."

  • Politico Pro: "…The case docket currently lists a trial starting Aug. 15."

  • Roll Call: "Duckworth Suit Settlement Rejected, Case to Move Forward"
