With Americans quickly losing confidence in the president’s plan to keep the country safe, the Senate is planning to vote on legislation that will tighten the vetting process for refugees from Middle East countries. This means Catherine Cortez Masto needs to give a straightforward answer to the question: Will she support it?
Cortez Masto has been on both sides of the issue, backing President Obama’s status quo and saying ‘we should be opening ourselves up’ to potential terrorists.

CCM: "Yes, I do think we should be opening ourselves up. It’s a human rights issue."
Host: “Are fears among some people — that you let a lot of these folks in, that some of them are going to be bad people, that some of them could be potential terrorists — what do you do about that?”
Masto: “I know the United States, we have a process already in place that we are looking to accept refugees.”
Host: “You support that?”
Masto: “I do support it. And I’ve said I support it. But, at the end of the day, it’s a human rights issue that we cannot ignore.” (Ralston Live, 9/14/15)
As soon as it became clear that Cortez Masto had put herself on the wrong side of voters with her lock-step support for President Obama’s aimless national security strategy, she attempted to flip her position.
“Democrats whose elections aren’t assured are echoing similar hang-on-a-minute refrains: Nevada Democratic Senate candidate Catherine Cortez Masto — a top hope for her party to hold Reid’s seat next year — said in a statement: ‘I share the concerns of some Republicans in Congress to ensure the United States Intelligence Community approves the vetting process before we accept more refugees.’” (Washington Post, 11/18/15)
With the issue once again in the news, Catherine Cortez Masto must once again pick a side on the question of national security. Will she fall back in line with Barack Obama and Harry Reid? It’s a yes or no question.
