Harry Reid has made it clear that he thinks he owns Nevada’s U.S. Senate seat, even telling an audience that he has a “proprietary interest” after holding it longer than anyone in Nevada history. So it’s no surprise that he’s going all-in for Catherine Cortez Masto, his handpicked candidate.

But there’s a problem. Cortez Masto hasn’t exactly proven to be a dynamo on the campaign trail. The lifelong politico is under fire for corruption during her tenure as Attorney General. The New York Times reported that her candidacy has “failed to catch fire.” Nevada Democrats concede that Dr. Joe Heck has run a better campaign. And nonpartisan political analyst Charlie Cook told MSNBC’s Chuck Todd that Dr. Heck is simply a stronger candidate:

With his legacy at stake, Reid will do everything he can to drag his designated successor across the finish line. As Cortez Masto haplessly ambles toward November, Reid has been forced to bail her out by calling in reinforcements.

Two key members of Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid’s DC staff are headed to Nevada to shore up the state party, a sign of his enduring influence on the organization and the importance he places on not allowing the Republicans to take his seat.

The move, slightly more than two months before Election Day, also includes a third new staffer outside of Reid’s shop to bolster the party’s communication staff…

The moves comes amid some criticism from insiders of Senate hopeful Catherine Cortez Masto’s campaign.

But no amount of staff can change the fact that Cortez Masto, a “loyal Democratic foot soldier,” is just another politician who cares more about Reid’s legacy, her party’s agenda, and her own political career than she cares about standing up for Nevada families.
