The week isn’t over yet, but Sara Gideon faced a series of controversies surrounding who is funding and assisting her effort for senate.

The latest issue arose Tuesday night at a ritzy Prouts Neck fundraiser where Gideon raised campaign dollars at the vacation home of a Colorado woman who compared a government shutdown to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Gideon’s recent controversies with varying kinds of legal, shady, or illegal political donations:

  • Dark money: On Monday, The Washington Post gave a ‘dark money’ group that has ties to Gideon THREE PINOCCHIOS  for a false and misleading TV ad. Despite decrying “dark money” and the influence of money in politics, Gideon has not spoken out or denounced these false ads or the shady group running them.
  • Campaign money: On Tuesday, Gideon hobnobbed with wealthy donors at a vacation home owned by a Colorado millionaire who compared the most recent government shutdown to the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
  • Corporate money: This all follows reports that Gideon admitted to repeatedly violating federal election laws by getting reimbursed for contributions via a corporate-funded political action committee. Gideon blamed “incorrect guidance,” but has yet to share that guidance with anyone.

“Whether it is ‘dark money,’ corporate cash, or campaign dollars from a loony liberal millionaire, shady Sara Gideon will stop at nothing – legal or illegal – to give away Maine’s voice to the extreme Democrats in Washington,” said NRSC spokesperson Nathan Brand.

Stay tuned for the next episode of shady Sara Gideon!
